CSUCI Performing Arts Department presents El Fandango de la Muete, Chicano Theatre about Dia de los Muertos /Day of the Dead

About the Show

CI’s Performing Arts Department presents EL FANDANGO DE LA MUERTE / DEATH'S FANDANGO, an original play written and directed by guest artist Javier Gomez, Artistic Director and Founder of Oxnard's award-winning Inlakech Cultural Arts Center. The show explores pre-colonization Dia del los Muertos / Day of the Dead stories and traditions in the style of Teatro Campesino, which gave birth to Chicano Theatre, and includes performances by students in PA/ART 191 Production and PA/ART 391 Advanced Production, as well as Inlakech students and associate artists.

Tour Dates

Wednesday, Nov. 1: The 42nd Annual Dia de los Muertos Monarch Butterfly Celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2242 Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard.  

Thursday, Nov. 2: Dia de los Muertos Culture, Arts, Food, Celebration! Oxnard College Performing Arts Building, 4:30 to 9 p.m. at 4000 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard.  

Admission to both is free. 

Campus performances run October 12-15:

Thursday October 12 at 8pm
Friday October 13 at 8pm
Saturday October 14 at 3pm
Sunday October 15 at 3pm

Malibu Hall Theater

Ticket prices: CI students: FREE, Other Students: $5, Faculty and Staff: $10, General Public: $15 (IDs or student ID #s check at the door)

Parking permits are required and available for $6 at the kiosk in front of Public Safety.

This performance runs approximately 50 minutes without intermission.

Ticket sales have ended, but come see the show on tour at the dates listed above!

CSUCI students can reserve a free ticket. Tickets range from $5-$15 and advanced online purchase. Ticket sales at the door will be limited.
